The Symptoms of ADD/ADHD

The three main characteristics of ADD/ADHD are inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. While many adults do not get diagnosed as children, the symptoms are often noticeable between the ages of three to seven years of age. Most children are not diagnosed until they reach school age, when they are involved in a structured setting and compared against a set of behavioral standards.

Inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity as common ADHD/ADD symptoms:

The Dangers of ADHD Drugs

Doctors often don’t disclose the dangers of ADHD drugs. They may mention some “common” side effects such as problems sleeping, loss of weight, loss of appetite and irritability but rarely do they mention the “other” side effects.

Did you know – many ADHD drugs can cause:
a. Depression
b. Suicidal Thoughts and Tendencies
c. Heart Attacks
Harry Hucknall was 10 years old when he took his own life. Diagnosed as having ADHD and prescribed both Ritalin and Prozac, Harry had mentioned feelings of unwell and did not appear to be happy. Tests have revealed he had higher doses than a normal adult would have had for the same problems. Harry was not alone, hundreds of children have died from drug-related deaths, ADHD drugs that is.

The next couple of paragraphs will be sad and readers are warned of the fact.

NATURAL REMEDIES OF ADD/ADHD

ADD is different with ADHD. Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is a condition characterized by a short or poor attention span and inappropriate, impulsive behavior. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is ADD with hyperactivity. These disorders usually affect school-aged children, but many continue into adulthood. Symptoms include fidgeting, excessive talking, disregard of consequences, and an inability to concentrate. Psychosimulant drugs are often prescribed to control ADD/ADHD, but natural remedies, including natural supplements and exercise, offer nonprescription alternatives.
According to Dr.Earl Mindell’s research, there are natural remedies of add/adhd :

Study: Restless Leg Syndrome During Pregnancy May Recur

Of all the conditions that appear during pregnancy — from gestational diabetes and acne to foot growth and intense cravings — transient restless leg syndrome (RLS) doesn't get a lot of attention. But according to new research published in the December 7 issue of Neurology, it should get its due for at least one reason: it may come back later in life.

RLS is a sleep-related motor disorder in which aches and twinges in the legs cause urges to move them. It flares up at night making sleep difficult, and symptoms of RLS tend to worsen with age.

In the new study of 207 women, 74 had RLS during pregnancy and 133 did not. Over the course of the six-and-a-half-year study, those who had RLS during pregnancy were four times more likely to get the disorder again later on,

Timing of Birth Linked to Cerebral Palsy

There may be one more reason for expectant moms to think twice before scheduling an elective Cesarean delivery to minimize the time they are pregnant. Researchers report that early or late delivery can increase the chances that a newborn develops cerebral palsy.

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a movement disorder that doctors believe originates from an injury to the brain during fetal development or early childhood. The scientists found that babies born at 37 weeks were 90% more likely to have cerebral palsy than babies born at 40 weeks, and that the relative risk was 40% higher among infants born later, after 42 weeks gestation. The overall risk of cerebral palsy among all births, they say, is still small.

While previous studies have found that babies born prior to 39-40 weeks have a higher chance of developing cerebral palsy, it's not clear what contributes to the condition.

When Mom Exercises in Pregnancy, Her Baby's Heart Benefits

One of the great things about pregnancy is that it offers a seemingly plausible excuse to indulge — eat a little more dessert (why not, when you're going to gain so much weight anyway) and dial down that hard-core exercise regimen (see first parenthetical). But new research upends that mindset, showing that exercise during pregnancy can actually result in a healthier baby.

That exercising while pregnant is good for mom is hardly news, but now that mothers-to-be know it's good for their babies, it will be that much harder to morph into a couch potato. Maternal guilt can now rear its head months before baby even appears on the scene, prompting Mom to hit the treadmill, hard.

Previous research has indicated that exercise in the first trimester, when the placenta is formed, helps forge extra blood vessels so that there is more opportunity to exchange nutrients between mom and baby.

Obese Women Are More Likely to Miscarry or Endure a Baby's Death

Women are counseled not to be too thin or too heavy before getting pregnant, and new research gives even more reason for women to watch their weight: obese pregnant women stand a much greater chance of miscarrying or burying their child before the baby's first birthday, the study finds.

"Given the rising prevalence of obesity in the population of pregnant women, the rates of miscarriage, stillbirth and infant mortality can be anticipated to increase," according to the study from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, which was published this week in the European journal Human Reproduction.

Researchers studied nearly 41,000 singleton pregnancies between 2003 to 2005 at five British maternity wards. They learned that women who were obese in early pregnancy had nearly double the risk of fetal death in utero or up to one year after birth compared to women who fell into recommended weight parameters.

Psychological Problems in Childhood Affect Earning Power and Relationships Later

In a 50-year study of more than 17,000 British people who were followed since birth, researchers from the RAND Labor and Population program found that psychological problems during childhood were related to measurable social and financial deficits later in life.

By age 50, those who had experienced serious psychological problems as children had family incomes that were 25% smaller than those of their peers who didn't have the same issues. Kids who had serious psychological problems — such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse or other mental disorders that caused moderate or severe 'emotional maladjustment' as determined by a doctor — were also less likely to have stable personal relationships or to be married by 50.

"These findings demonstrate that childhood psychological problems can have significant negative impacts over the course of an individual's life, much more so than childhood physical health problems," said James P. Smith, one of the study's authors and a senior economist at RAND, in a statement.

Is My Baby Too Fat? Parents Put Infants on Diets

There's nothing cuter than a chubby baby. But for some parents, their child's pudgy cheeks, tubby tummy and roly-poly thunder thighs are cause for concern — so much so that they're putting their wee ones on extreme diets, according to ABC's Good Morning America.

One in 10 U.S. children under the age of 2 is overweight, an alarming statistic that has doubled over the past two decades. But while childhood obesity is unquestionably a public-health concern, it seems that in many cases parents' worry is rooted in their own personal struggles with obesity, not with their child's. "I have seen parents putting their infant and 1-year-old on diets because of history in one parent or another," Dr. Jatinder Bhatia, chair of the nutrition committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics, told ABC.

In an especially egregious case earlier this year, a couple in Washington State was found guilty of starving their baby by putting laxatives in her bottle to keep her from gaining weight.

Disease Caused Baby's Head to Swell to Three Times Its Normal Size

When 10-month-old "Baby Klaus," as he has become known, was sent home to die after being diagnosed with hydrocephalus, also known as "water on the brain," his head had swollen to more than three times its normal size. His family in El Paso, Texas, was distraught. They didn't know what to do. Baby Klaus not only had a head measuring in at a 104 centimeters in circumference, but he was in obvious pain.

But thanks to the nonprofit organization Hydro Angels Over Texas, a group founded three years ago by hydrocephalus sufferer Sheri Burdine, Baby Klaus may get a second chance. With help from Hydro Angels, Baby Klaus is now receiving care at from neurosurgeons at the University of Texas Science Center in San Antonio, where, according to ABC News reports, doctors are slowly draining fluid from his brain.

Psychiatric Risks are More Common among Kids with Epilepsy

According to a study of the Alfstad, National Centre for Epilepsy at Oslo University Hospital, it has been revealed that psychiatric symptoms are more common among the children with epilepsy. Around 40,000 of the people are suffering from epilepsy. However, the research is failed to explain that how children with epilepsy develop with psychiatric problems.

Some other risk factors for the psychiatric symptoms are low socioeconomic status, living alone, poverty, and some chronic diseases, such as diabetes and asthma.

Although, it has been found that boys had a higher risk of psychiatric problems, as they are more hyperactive and suffer more peer pressure in contrast to girls.

A Cup Of Coffee A Day Keeps Stroke Risk Away In Females

A new research said that having more than a cup of coffee daily is associated to a 22 to 25 percent lower stroke risk.

The study also said that low or no coffee intake is linked with an augmented stroke risk.

The research, which has been conducted on 34,670 females aged between 49 to 83 years, discovered this after the scientists followed the study partakers for an average 10.4 years.

They detected that females who consumed more than a cup of coffee daily witnessed their stroke threat declined by between 20 to 25% as compared to those who consumed little or none.

Faulty Genes Found in Pregnancy Illness that Kills 1,000 Babies A Year

Three faulty genes have been found that put women at risk of pre-eclampsia, the potentially dangerous high blood pressure that affects one in 20 pregnancies.

The breakthrough could lead to drugs to prevent the condition.

Pre-eclampsia usually develops after the 20th week of pregnancy. It kills around ten women and 1,000 unborn babies a year in Britain and is responsible for around 15 per cent of premature births.

It is caused by the breakdown of the placenta which delivers nutrients and oxygen to an unborn baby.

Because the cause of pre-eclampsia is unknown, there are no reliable ways to predict who will suffer from it.

Expectant Mother's Poor Diet May Cause Baby Health Problems

BEIJING,March 11 (Xinhuanet) --A poor diet during pregnancy may result in health problems such as diabetes for the offspring in later life, according media reports Friday quotting a new research.

Based on a study of rats, researchers from the University of Cambridge altered the protein content of the mother's diet during pregnancy as they found that rats were more vulnerable to the effects of diseases if their mothers were malnourished while they were pregnant.

Further, the study also showed that an imbalanced diet in the expectant mother can compromise the long-term functioning of a gene in the child. And the gene, named Hnf4a, is believed to play a major role in the development of the pancreas and in the production of insulin.

CONSTIPATION (PART 2)

A careful history and physical examination is important in all patients with constipation. There are many tests that can be used to evaluate constipation. Most patients need only a few basic tests. The other tests are reserved for individuals who have severe constipation or whose constipation does not respond easily to treatment.
a. Medical History
A careful medical history from a patient with constipation is critical for many reasons, but particularly because it allows the physician to define the type of constipation. This, in turn, directs the diagnosis and treatment. For example, if defecation is painful, the physician knows to look for anal problems such as a narrowed anal sphincter or an anal fissure. If small stools are the problem, there is likely to be a lack of fiber in the diet. If the patient is experiencing significant straining, then pelvic floor dysfunction is likely.

CONSTIPATION (PART 1)

Constipation (also known as costiveness, dyschezia, and dyssynergic defaecation) means different things to different people. For many people, it simply means infrequent stools. For others, however, constipation means hard stools, difficulty passing stools (straining), or a sense of incomplete emptying after a bowel movement.

Constipation also can alternate with diarrhea. This pattern commonly occurs as part of the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). At the extreme end of the constipation spectrum is fecal impaction, a condition in which stool hardens in the rectum and prevents the passage of any stool.

Constipation is common; in the general population incidence of constipation varies from 2 to 30%. The number of bowel movements generally decreases with age. Ninety-five percent of adults have bowel movements between three and 21 times per week, and this would be considered normal.

PREGNANCY SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

How can you tell if you are pregnant? There are a number of signs and symptoms to watch for. Chances are you will only experience a portion of the symptoms. Each pregnancy is different, and the same mom to be can experience different pregnancy signs each time she gets pregnant. Some women will experience one or two of them, others will have several of signs and symptoms. Once you have conceived, it will take about a week for the fertilized egg to implant in the uterus. As implantation happens, it's now possible to experience one or more of the pregnancy signs and symptoms and begin to know that you are pregnant. Around this time, hormone levels begin to change, and the body reacts to these new hormone levels.

1. Implantation
While a rare minority will experience pregnancy symptoms sooner, typically the first pregnancy signs occur when your baby implants around 8-10 days after ovulation.

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ADHD AND ADD

The additional offender groans.

ADHD is different with ADD. ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) has two main symptoms (hyperactivity and impulsive), while the main symptom of ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) is the inability to focus (without hyperactivity).
Children with ADHD can be classified into three groups: Hyperactivity and act impulsively, focusing attention disorder (Attention Deficit Disorder), and the concentration of attention and hyperactivity disorder (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).

Many parents do not feel worried if their children who were aged under five years old are very active impressed. Although sometimes exhausting and cause resentment, but that was the act of a healthy toddler.
